Job Brief

Regularly provides engineering services in an engineering discipline, as a project/program leader, or in an area of technical specialty, in a technically sound, safe, timely, and cost effective manner to enable SRP to realize its goals and objectives for providing water and energy related services.

Key Job Responsibilities

•             Provide mentorship and training to less experienced engineers. Ensure technical accuracy of the work products of the group by reviewing and providing feedback on the technical work of others in the group or of consultants.

•             Function as a subject matter expert on all core transmission planning work and, when required, be the project lead on large or complex projects.

•             Perform analysis (powerflow, transient, post transient, and short circuit) to determine the impact of connecting large and small generator projects of varying technologies (including batteries) to the Salt River Project (SRP) transmission system.

•             Perform analysis to determine the impact of connecting large dedicated loads to the SRP transmission system.

•             Perform annual transmission planning analysis of the SRP transmission system and determine capital projects needed in the next six to ten years.

•             Document the results of all analysis performed, provide updates to management, and present and train on study results as required.

•             Actively participate in industry committees and tasks forces as a representative of SRP as required

Additional Responsibilities

•             Strong power engineering background and minimum five years transmission planning experience preferred.

•             Knowledge and direction of the application of industry technical committee results for improved system modeling.

•             Knowledge in Power Flow analysis, Transient Stability Analysis, VAR Margin Analysis, WECC Path Rating Methodology, WECC SOL Methodology, Short Circuit Methods, WECC Committee Structure, NERC Standards applied to transmission planning & renewable integration challenges.

•             Complex problem solving skills for power systems and the ability to advocate on SRP's behalf in public and industry forums.

•             Engage in research with universities improving modeling and techniques used in transmission planning.

•             Understanding of complex load model and migration to and application of FIDVR load modeling and voltage criteria.

•             Responsible for budgets, schedules, and management of resources for programs and projects of major scope.

•             Occasional travel to suppliers' facilities, industry functions, and SRP facilities.

•             Ability to work effectively with various organizations within SRP.

•             Ability to use engineering tools required for the job.

Ten (10) years full time professional experience actively engaged in engineering practice.

Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work as defined for this position.

Contributed to the authoring, publishing and/or presenting of internal or external technical papers.

I - Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum


1. Additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA, or 18 graduate level college semester hours from an accredited institution in an engineering related field)
