Job Brief

Desktop Management Specialist will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and problem resolution of workstation equipment and application software. Will work closely with end users in configuring hardware and software to meet business needs.  Must have top-notch customer service skills!

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides desk side support for all end user devices
  • Provides field support
  • Implements solutions to specific workstation problems
  • Coordinates and installs workstation hardware and software
  • Works with end users on workstation hardware and software issues involving installation, training, and problem resolution
  • Participates in the analysis and resolution of network problems associated with specific workstation problems
  • Keeps current on technology industry trends or issues and assesses impact on existing workstation configurations and standards
  • Provides information for databases that track hardware inventory, trouble calls, and problem resolution
  • Assists WST with advising end users on compatibility issues between corporate desktop standards and hardware/software considered non-standard
  • Assists WST with research and advises end users on technology and any compatibility issues with existing hardware/software
  • Assists in development of workstation specifications and compatible configurations
    Implements and provides support for smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices
  • Participates in after hours on-call responsibilities
  • After-hours computer move requests
  • Availability to work a flexible work schedule is preferred
  • Performance troubleshooting and root cause analysis

Education

College level coursework (100+) from an accredited institution will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the skill/level to determine if applicable to the position by management.

Experience

At job entry, placement will be determined by a review of college transcripts and related work experience.  A minimum of 6 years of related experience is required for the senior level.  Once placed into the job family, an employee may become eligible for promotion by demonstrating the ability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by their management and meeting experience requirements.  

Additional Information

The following knowledge & skills are required:

  • Knowledge of workstation hardware, software, operating systems, communications, protocols, printers, modems, terminals, controllers, etc.
  • Ability to interpret error messages and take appropriate action
  • Knowledge of network configuration and ability to correctly attach equipment to the appropriate network
  • Ability to analyze network problems and initiate corrective action where required and within the scope of knowledge and accountability
  • Ability to implement recovery procedures as applicable
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with infrastructure consultants, vendors, workstation users and support staff
  • Knowledge of diagnostic equipment procedures to troubleshoot problems that arise
  • Ability to work well with end users and utilize positive customer service skills, especially during tense situations
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows operating systems including; Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows 10 and other Microsoft products
  • Windows 10 troubleshooting experience and also Microsoft Office troubleshooting experience
