Summary

The Principal Accounting Analyst is an SAP Controlling (CO) subject matter expert within the Corporate Accounting Services organization responsible for leading and executing all matters relating to SRP’s managerial accounting including overhead loads, allocation processes and procedures, and accounting cost flows. The Principal Accounting Analyst is a critical role supporting complete, accurate, and timely budgeting, accounting, and reporting.

What You'll Do

  • Direct and execute all matters associated with overhead loads and allocations processes
  • Lead projects and teams with broad visibility
  • Understand relationship between cost-flow, accounting fundamentals, and financial statements
  • Direct business areas related to cost center organizational changes, allocations, and clearings 
  • Monitor overhead load rates and propose adjustments to management 
  • Communicate load rates changes and other information to stakeholders and management
  • Participate in and provide key data during the annual budgeting cycle 
  • Prepare overhead load rate allocation studies by working with business areas and analyzing data to develop and update load rates needed for budget/actuals reporting 
  • Provide guidance for master data creation identifying appropriate use of costing sheets, cost center clearings and allocations, and FERC indicator 
  • Utilize SAP and available reporting to execute tasks, collect data and conduct analyses
  • Prepare and present information to executive management and other stakeholders
  • Execute period-end close activities related to load rate allocation and settlement activities
  • Coordinate and work closely with other areas including SAP technical support  
  • Provide technical input, mentor and train others on SAP functionality, reporting and analysis
  • Prepare supporting monthly, quarterly and annual reports for stakeholders
  • Troubleshoot accounting and SAP issues related to assigned areas
  • Serve as FERC subject-matter expert supporting FERC regulatory information needs and inquiries, as well as processing the FERC module
  • Provide accounting and SAP direction, information and analysis as requested 
  • Provide support to internal and external auditors as required
  • Develop and maintain back-up capabilities by engaging in knowledge sharing and training efforts
  • Identify opportunities for process changes and improvements where appropriate
  • Perform various, often complex accounting procedures (e.g., journal entries, account reconciliations, etc.)
  • Work with other utility industry representatives on various matters of mutual concern
  • Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned, maintaining high levels of accuracy, maintaining a professional demeanor and appropriate levels of confidentiality, and providing excellent customer service
  • Complete other miscellaneous projects and ad hoc assignments

What It Takes To Succeed

  • Minimum 10 years professional experience
  • Minimum 2 years of large ERP experience required (SAP Preferred) 
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation of Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation preferred.

Education

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution plus an additional 18 graduate level college credits in an area of specialty.

  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution plus an additional 18 graduate level college credits in the area of specialty or CPA or CMA professional certifications.  A degree in a business or relevant analytical field of study, including, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Management Information Systems, or related field is preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite including advanced Excel and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to organize a diverse workload, work independently, and complete work accurately and within deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills proven ability to both listen effectively, articulate complex concepts simply and coherently
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

 

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
