Required Education and Qualifications

SRP Engineers must have a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited curriculum and meet the following qualifications to be considered: 

Engineer:

  • Five (5) years of full-time experience actively engaged in engineering practice.  
  • Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1 and demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor.

 

Senior Engineer:

  • Five (5) years of full-time experience actively engaged in engineering practice.  
  • Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1 and demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor.

 

Principal Engineer:

  • Ten (10) years of full-time professional experience actively engaged in engineering practice.  
  • Additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA or 18 graduate-level college semester hours from an accredited institution in an engineering-related field) or State Professional Engineering Registration or State Professional Engineering Registration and additional specialty training (18 graduate-level college semester hours from an accredited institution). 

 

Senior Principal Engineer:

  • Fourteen(14) years of professional experience actively engaged in engineering plus professional recognition.  
  • Must have demonstrated the success
  • ful accomplishment of work as defined for this position. 
  • Authored internal and/or external technical papers and additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA, or 36 graduate-level college semester hours) or State Professional Engineering Registration plus additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA or 18 graduate-level college semester hours). 

 

Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) is required for all engineering degrees at SRP. ABET accreditation provides assurance that a college or university program meets the quality standards of the profession for which that program prepares graduates. ABET provides specialized accreditation for post-secondary programs within degree-granting institutions already recognized by national or regional institutional accreditation agencies or national education authorities worldwide.

    Job Levels and Advancement

    At SRP, we have several engineering role types and levels. Each varies in required education, years of experience, certifications and advanced degree requirements. 

    SRP frequently hires Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Civil Engineers and/or individuals with a combination of degrees and experience in these areas.

SRP frequently hires Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Civil Engineers and/or individuals with a combination of degrees and experience in these areas.  

The various levels include:

  • Engineering Technician: Performs office and/or field technical work, recommends action on plans and procedures, and develops equipment and material specifications. Work involves the application of mathematical and technical knowledge gained through training and experience and requires judgment in the execution of assignments. 
  • Rotational Engineer: This program exposes recent engineering graduates to a variety of departments and business activities. This program is a two-year program with four six-month rotations in various participating departments. Rotational Engineer Program
  • Engineer/Senior Engineer: Provides engineering services to SRP in a technically sound, safe, timely and cost-effective manner to enable SRP to realize its goals and objectives for providing water- and energy-related services.  
  • Principal Engineer: Regularly provides engineering services in an engineering discipline as a project/program leader or in an area of technical specialty. 
  • Senior Principal Engineer: Regularly provides engineering services for major organizational programs with full technical responsibility as a project/program leader or in an advanced area of technical specialty.
