About Environmental Science and Policy at SRP

We’re modernizing and securing our grid, expanding our renewable energy offerings, curbing our shared carbon footprint and conserving our natural resources to help meet the evolving water and power needs of the communities we serve.

The SRP Environmental Services (ES) team’s mission is to provide leadership and guidance to ensure environmental compliance while controlling liabilities and costs. Working collaboratively with regulatory agencies and stakeholders, the ES team develops innovative policies, programs and technologies to promote sustainable water and power resources.  

Those who join SRP’s dynamic ES team can make a positive impact in the laboratory or in the field, setting policy and strategy, analyzing air/water quality data, and protecting Arizona’s native plants and wildlife.

Policy Analyst: (Must have a minimum of five years utility-related experience in planning, environmental affairs, public affairs or finance preferred for senior-level roles. Must be highly specialized in the area of utility regulation, economics and operations, especially as it relates to climate change, reregulation, rate structures and utility financing requirements.)

Biological & Cultural Resource Services: Environmental Compliance Scientist

  • Arizona Native Plant Law Compliance

  • Endangered Species Act Compliance & Policy 
  • Environmental Studies to Support Regulatory Approvals 
  • Habitat Conservation Plans 
  • Invasive/Nuisance Species Management 
  • National Environmental Policy Act Planning and Documentation 
  • National and State Historic Preservation Act Compliance 
  • Watershed Protection, Restoration and Management Partnerships

Environmental Compliance Scientist/Engineer: 

  • Utilize advanced air quality knowledge for preparing air quality permit application(s) and compliance-related documentation.  
  • Ensure compliance with applicable air quality rules and regulations.   
  • Stay abreast of environmental issues that may impact SRP operations. 

 

Water Quality & Waste Management Services: Environmental Compliance Scientist and Environmental Compliance Scientist/Engineer

  • Utilize advanced water quality knowledge for preparing water quality permit application(s) and compliance-related documentation.  
  • Ensure compliance with applicable water quality rules and regulations.  
  • Stay abreast of environmental issues that may impact SRP operations. 

What Environmental Science Jobs at SRP Look Like

SRP’s talented teams conduct science-based regulatory and compliance work to support our sustainability goals. 

In the field, that could include water and waste sample collections, field equipment maintenance and field analytical services. In the lab, that could include working on and with inorganic and organic chemistry, trace metals, microbiology and hazardous waste characterization as well as providing Arizona Department of Health Services regulatory compliance support.

Advancing Through Your Environmental Career

Career Pathway to Policy Analyst: Begin your career at SRP with an internship while you are completing a bachelor’s degree with an Environmental/Sustainability focus, business focus and/or biology/chemistry focus. Once graduated, you can apply for the two-year Business Analyst Rotation Program, helping advance you into placement as an Analyst 1, 2 or Senior in Environmental Policy & Strategy.  

Career Pathway to Scientist: A bachelor's degree in environmental science or a science-related field (biology, chemistry or engineering) is needed for an entry-level job such as a field analyst or research assistant. At least three years experience is most typical to move into higher-level Environmental Scientist roles. Typically a master’s degree is needed for more advanced positions, such as project leader or program manager.
