Work Environment

At SRP, safety is a fundamental core value. We are committed to conducting business and operations with the highest regard for the safety of employees, contractors, customers and the public.

This is especially true with our skilled trades employees. From linemen and electricians to apprentices, tradeshelpers and warehouse workers, all SRP employees have a responsibility to be safety leaders. Our goal is to ensure that all employees go home safely each day. Our commitment is to work each day with a zero accident or incident mindset.

Apprenticeship & Training Programs

SRP offers two rigorous, hands-on apprenticeship programs, along with ongoing training, to ensure our workforce remains highly skilled and fluent in best-in-class safety practices. This work is both physically and mentally demanding, with tangible impacts on our customers and the communities we serve. We rely on our employees’ experience, technical expertise, and unwavering commitment to safety to deliver affordable, reliable water and power.

SRP apprenticeship programs require a minimum of 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related instruction, and typically require a four-year commitment. These programs are registered and regulated by both the Arizona Department of Economic Security’s Apprenticeship Office and the U.S. Department of Labor.

Throughout the four-year program, apprentices are evaluated monthly to ensure they are making appropriate progress. Apprentices attend after-hours related instruction classes and work to obtain the required on-the-job training hours to complete the program on schedule. Each apprenticeship trade is supported by a subcommittee of journeyworkers and supervisors who help guide program direction and support apprentice development.

Upon completion of the program, apprentices graduate as journeyworkers in their trade—an achievement that earns certifications from both the State of Arizona and the U.S. Department of Labor.

SRP apprentices are full-time employees who receive full benefits and are eligible for wage progressions as they advance. Most importantly, apprentices complete their programs performing meaningful, well-compensated work they can be proud of.
