Summary

SRP is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Digital Control Specialist to support the reliable operation of several Generating Stations. This role is responsible for maintaining and optimizing the plant’s digital control systems, including GE Mark VIe, Siemens T3000, and Allen-Bradley platforms. The ideal candidate will ensure control system reliability, support troubleshooting, and contribute to efficient and safe plant operations.

What You'll Do

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on the plant’s digital control systems, including GE Mark VIe, Siemens T3000, and Allen-Bradley PLCs.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues related to control logic, instrumentation, and communication networks.
  • Support configuration, testing, and commissioning of control system upgrades, software patches, and hardware replacements.
  • Monitor control system performance and implement optimization strategies to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of control system configurations, modifications, and maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to ensure seamless integration of control system functionality with plant equipment.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and resolution of control-related faults, alarms, and trips.
  • Provide technical support for system backups, disaster recovery procedures, and cybersecurity practices.
  • Coordinate with OEMs and vendors for advanced troubleshooting and system enhancements.
  • Participate in control system training and development to stay current on evolving technologies and standards.
  • Support compliance with operational and environmental standards through accurate control system monitoring and reporting.
  • Be available for after-hours support as needed to maintain system reliability.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What It Takes To Succeed

  • Responsibly manage project budgets and schedules.
  • Provide information, answers, and responsible solutions to support the reliable operation of the generating station.
  • Represent SRP when contacting customers and outside agencies.
  • Write specifications for contract with suppliers of equipment and services.
  • Occasionally travel to suppliers facilities, industry organizational functions and SRP facilities.
  • Work effectively with various organizational groups within SRP.
  • Ability to use engineering tools required for the job (i.e., computer, test equipment, etc.).

Experience

The DCS specialist position requires a minimum of one of the following:

  • Successful completion of the SRP Power Generation DCS Specialist Trainee program

OR

  • At least 5 years’ experience is preferred at journeyman status or equivalent in a power plant, preferably three of which involve direct DCS experience.

OR

  • At least 5 years’ experience in power plant operations is preferred, two of which include control room operations experience.

Education

A combination of educational or equivalent experience will be considered:

  • Completion of an applicable Apprenticeship program, operations trainee or specialist trainee program, or equivalent.
  • Associates degree in engineering technology with an emphasis on controls or automation, or equivalent. 

Certifications

Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.
