Summary
Support the safe, efficient and cost effective production of electric energy by performing various generating station maintenance and operations tasks. The duties listed below assume that the O&M I has completed his training to be fully competent in each skill.
Any one position may not include all duties nor do the example of duties include all tasks, which may be found in the position of this class.
What You'll Do
- The duties specified are only those typically required for the job. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Safely prepares equipment, tools, material and protective devices needed for various jobs.
- Operates tools, hauls and positions materials for assisting various crafts.
- Operates forklifts and hoists.
- Performs necessary rigging in connection with assigned duties.
- Assists all journeymen classifications.
- Performs coal, ash handling and fuel oil unloading duties.
- Perform all entry-level plant operations duties.
- Serve in a Trades Helper capacity as it applies.
- May perform general custodial/housekeeping duties.
- Employees may be required to perform train track maintenance.
- Ensures proper handling of chemicals and waste according to rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties. Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.
What It Takes To Succeed
- Occupation code 5880 (beginning). Entry-level position. Occupation Code 5881 (training complete). Successful Completion of O&M Specialist 1 Progressionary Training Objectives. Successful completion of O&M 1 School.
- Advancement from the O&M Specialist 1 to the O&M Specialist 1 T/A in this job is based on the successful completion of the O&M 1 Progressionary Training Objectives and successful completion of the O&M Specialist 1 school. Additional career advancement opportunities involving operations, maintenance and railroad job functions are available for Specialist 1 employees that meet the job requirements and successfully bid on higher O&M 2 and 3 level Specialist jobs.
- The training requirements for this position are listed in the O&M Specialist 1 training curriculum. This training includes job specific courses and skills.
- No progression from the O&M Specialist 1 to the O&M Specialist 1 T/A or advancement between levels of the O&M Specialist job will be based on time-in-grade.
- All required training should be completed within two years from the date of promotion to this job, but can vary due to work demands. The curriculum can and will change. Mandatory Regulatory Training includes clearance procedure, OSHA, environmental, safety, etc
- Completion of all O&M 1 training. The training curriculum will vary based on business needs and conditions.
- Failure to complete the O&M 1 curriculum, testing and Job Performance Measures in the specified amount of time will result in either a) and opportunity to bid to another position or b) termination.
