Summary
SRP Gila River Power Station is recruiting for a Plant Chemist - Senior Scientist/Engineer Environmental. Located in Gila Bend, Arizona, the Gila River Power Station is home to four combined cycle power blocks. Each power block consists of two combustion turbines, two heat recovery steam generators and one steam turbine. All four blocks combined have a total capacity of 2,200 MW.
Including the normal duties of a Senior Scientist/Engineer Environmental, the position requires monitoring chemical Inventory, ordering bulk chemicals, quality control of all lab procedures, reviewing calibration and maintenance of bench top and continuous sample lab instruments. Supports chemical-related troubleshooting activities on power plant systems and equipment. Inspects equipment and monitor operating conditions, meters, and gauges to determine load requirements and detect malfunctions. Supports and emphasizes the importance of safety and environmental programs and ensures regulatory compliance. Participates in continuous improvement planning and impementation in area of responsibility. Recognizes problems and is proactive in helping to resolve them.
Position will also require experience with process control lab analysis of all plant waters, such as closed cooling water, open circulating cooling water, and feedwater/boiler water systems. Has handled chemicals such as phosphate, polymer, sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, corrosion inhibitors, and others. Maintain, review, and interpret analytical data to determine system status, recommend required chemical treatment for operational parameters. Requires understanding of plant operations relating to water treatment, such as demineralizers and reverse osmosis. Knowledge of wastewater recovery, feed water and HRSG boiler systems. Communicates technical information on the condition of plant chemical-related processes/equipment to management and other technical personnel. Not only must chemist maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public, but also contractors and vendors.

May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.
What It Takes To Succeed
Occasional travel for specialized training and utility business meetings occasional contact with utility engineers and scientists from other companies and outside agencies. Ability to work effectively using services of various organizational groups within SRP. Effective interpersonal skills to communicate study work and results to high level management. Ability to use complex computer software tools. Ability to discreetly prepare and use proprietary and sensitive information.
Experience
Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.
Education
Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
