Job Brief

Under supervision, plans, organizes, develops, coordinates, instructs, and evaluates the Power Generation Operations Specialist (OST) and Digital Control Specialist (DCS) training programs. Function is designed to assist in providing an adequate and continuing flow of trained and qualified personnel to fill Power Generation facilities requirements and standards. Position involves interaction with all employee levels and various community and educational resources in an advisory role.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the SRP Power Generation Operations Specialist (OST) training and Digital Control Specialist (DCS) programs as assigned.
  • Work together with SRP Power Generation facilities management and others to analyze training needs and current areas for improvement needed as well as and future needs.
  • Designs, develops, plans, and implements primary skill training, secondary skill training, basic OST training, and basic DCS training based on appropriate Power Generation facilities requirements and standards.
  • Maintains accurate records, schedules facilities, and coordinates all elements of assigned projects/tasks, for effective learning.
  • Working knowledge of EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) training as well as required OSHA and NFPA (fire requirements) and other required regulatory training.
  • Maintains continuing communications with SRP Power Generation facilities management and others regarding current training needs as well as and future needs.
  • Interact with all SRP Power Generation facilities to ensure some level of training consistency and to gain consensus of new programs and training needed.

Education

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.

Experience

For those individuals with a Technical Degree: A minimum of four years of experience in a comparable job classification in a similar industry is required, including training and presentation experience.

For those individuals who have progressed through the Technical Training, Apprenticeship or Operations Specialist Training Track: A minimum of four years in a Journeyman or Operations Specialist classification, including training and presentation experience.

Type of Experience:

  • O&M III T/A, Operations Specialist, O&M Supervisor in Operations
  • Instrumentation and Controls Technician or Digital Control Specialist.
  • Demonstrates in depth knowledge of boilers, turbines, generator, and associated power generation equipment and systems. Must have a thorough knowledge of company policies, safety procedures, and environmental regulations. Ability to work effectively under pressure while working with others.  Exhibits strong organization and communication skills.
  • No special licensing or certifications are required. A specific list of licensing or certifications will be provided should it be required in the future.
  • Interaction with other SRP departments and vendors will occur as well as with other utilities.
  • Professional Training will be continuous. The Specialist must continue to improve his/her training education and stay current with new technology as well as with software programs.
  • Some budget responsibilities are required. Providing budget information as well as creating and evaluating bids from vendors may be part of the duties.
  • Will require work in and around the occupational hazards of power plants although most of duties will be office type.
  • In terms of education: A Completion of an Associate's degree, Apprenticeship, or 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.

Hybrid Workplace

 

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
