Summary

Under general supervision, performs work of a skilled nature in the mechanical maintenance and repair of hydraulic turbines, gates, valves, generators, engines, pumps and related equipment. Repairs and maintains fuel driven engines that power electric  generators, compressors, welders and other similar equipment, using hand tools and precision-measuring devices. May require being transported by fixed wing, rotor or other means of Project approved transportation. What You'll Do

  • Dismantles, cleans, inspects, repairs and reassembles plant parts and equipment auxiliary equipment, pumps and reassembles engines.
  • Performs or assists in all operations involving rigging, moving, setting and aligning of machinery, equipment and materials.
  • Operates winch/boom, trucks, cranes, hoists and other similar equipment.
  • Maintains and repairs gates, hydraulic turbines, valves and other plant equipment, working in penstocks and other unpleasant and hazardous locations.
  • Operates shot blast machine and sandblasting equipment in preparing surfaces of metal objects for painting, coating or metal spraying.
  • Application of industrial coatings.
  • Adjusts and makes repairs to sandblasting equipment.
  • Is responsible for the safety of other, and that all work performed is accomplished in a cost effective manner.
  • Performs related work as required as workloads vary and are adjusted by supervisory personnel.
  •  Verifies clearances and adjustments using precision-measuring tools.
  • Diagnostic work on governors and transfer switches.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to repair standby generator fuel systems.
  • Reads operating reports and diagnose cause of trouble on standby generators and other engine driven equipment.
  • Repairs, adjusts or replaces defective parts on carburetors, magnetos, generators, alternators, distributors and hydraulic systems.
  • Repairs compressors, welders and other engine driving equipment.
  • Keeps repair and maintenance records of work performed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties.  Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public.   Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work.  May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.

What It Takes To Succeed

Ability to get along well with other in confined quarters. Must communicate well with others, both oral and written. Ability to plan and schedule work. Eligibility for General Mechanic II requires all skills of General Mechanic I plus demonstrated proficiency and certification to perform overhead crane inspections and repairs or standby generator inspection and repair. Eligibility for General Mechanic Sr. requires demonstrated proficiency of stand by generator diagnosis, maintenance and repairs and overhead crane inspection and repair. Must be willing to accept emergency call-outs during off hours and occasionally work nights and reside temporarily away from home. Work requires concentrated mental, visual and physical skills, Work may involve complex work; such as planning out laying out work or a high degree of manual dexterity with close attention for prolonged periods.  May be required to become certified on various pieces of equipment.

Experience

2 years of experience as a Trades helper in any area of the company, or equivalent experience.

Testing and Certifications

Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.
Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test and training required.
