Summary

Manages and directs the activities of distribution projects, allocating the proper resources to ensure the design processes are followed in accordance with distribution design policies and procedures. Using established customer relation management techniques, the Design Manager ensures resources are utilized in a productive and efficient manner thereby meeting both customer and developer needs.
 

What You'll Do

  • Manages those responsible for the design and job coordination of distribution projects.
  • Oversees the administration of developer/customer relationship management activities, ensuring prompt response time and that project development and management meets developer/customer needs and expectations.
  • Manages the workflow and processing of developer/customer projects, granting a clear scope of timeline and availability, to ensure proper job schedule and assignment, as well as projected completion date, thereby allowing the design process to work through to completion with minimal changes and/or interruptions and ensuring delivery commitments to developer/customer kept.
  • Serves as liaison between distribution design and construction and other SRP departments regarding proper and adequate implementation and communication of cross-departmental roles and responsibilities, ensuring the successful completion of design and construction jobs and projects.
  • Protects SRP's capital investment in plant; administers schedules, cost policies, cost estimates for accurate proposals to developer/customer.
  • Assists other SRP departments in investigating and resolving customer electric service problems, hazards and easement encroachments.
  • Manages labor and material used to design distribution systems.
  • Serves as the technical representative and consultant for formulating policy on boards and committees, such as the standards task force, GIS task force and the distribution designer training task force.
  • Arbitrates conflicts with developer/customer and SRP design and construction.
  • Assigns project to design teams and members with regard to group and individual capabilities.
  • Ensures employees are in compliance with training and certification requirements.
  • Prepares performance reviews, interprets company policies and recommends personnel actions. Fills in for the division manager as needed.
  • Ensures that departmental goals and objectives for performance standards are met in terms of production, quality, and safety.
  • Assists employees in preparing personal employee development plans, yearly goals and objectives, EPIC goals, and other career path objectives.
  • Reviews and approves time entries in accordance with SRP policies.
  • Fosters and promotes effective teamwork approach to production.

What It Takes To Succeed

  • Experience in Project Management, Design Consultant, Senior Designer or Distribution Project Leader or other related experience appropriate for the assignment. 
  • Prefer some leadership experience. 
  • Extensive contact with professionals outside SRP including Consulting Engineers, Municipal Representatives and Developer Agents. 
  • Confidentiality requirements both within and outside SRP. 
  • Knowledge of community development activities. 
  • Responsible for directing the prioritization of scheduling and making commitments for delivery of design and construction products. 
  • Ability to represent SRP on external committees with other utilities, agencies, municipalities, manufactures and developer/customer.

Experience

A minimum of seven years of related experience is required (if no degree, 11 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling 11 years). 

Education

A bachelor’s degree related to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.

 

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
