Summary
Under general supervision, performs skilled work at the journeyman level fabricating and repairing all types of structures, equipment, assemblies, systems related to structural steel, high-pressure pipe and/or boiler systems, makes weld repairs to all types of mechanical equipment; using oxy/acetylene, gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) and shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). Employee must pass initial AWS-011, ASME T001 certification. Employee may be required to pass additional specialized weld certifications and/or other alloy welding tests. Position may require; being transported by fixed wing, rotor or other means of SRP approved transportation; the directing of others in the performance of duties; scheduled and unscheduled overtime, various shifts, and out of town work assignment, zone assignments. What You'll Do
- Plans and develops necessary work processes required to perform the tasks associated with the trade of Metal Fabricator including identifying the appropriate tools, equipment, materials etc.
- Performs lay-out and assembly of work in accordance with required dimensions received through sketches, prints, written and/or verbal instructions.
- Performs metal fabrication and welding repairs in support of various SRP facilities including; Hydro-Electric Plants, Steam Generation Plants, Renewable Energy Plants, Transmission and Distribution Facilities and the SRP Water Storage and Distribution.
- Assists other employees doing related work. Provides coverage to maintain operational requirements due to vacation, sick leave or as work load varies.
- Depending on workload, employees in this job classification may be required to perform duties of other job classification of equal or lesser pay for which they are qualified within Mechanical C & M.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties. Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.
What It Takes To Succeed
Mechanical troubleshooting skills and experience. Basic electrical troubleshooting skills and experience. Life equipment operation and pre-inspection (Forklift, Jibs, Hoist, Cranes etc.). Ability to pass verifications test for high-pressure welding. Perform Metal Fabricator duties in Steam and/or Hydro Generating Facilities. Position may require; being transported by fixed wing, rotor or other means of SRP approved transportation; scheduled and unscheduled overtime, various shifts, and out of town work assignments, zone assignments. Thorough knowledge of tools, methods, and procedures of welding; of physics, chemistry and metallurgy as applied to heat treatment and fusion of metals and alloys; of fabrication and erection. Handling and moving heavy objects.
Experience
Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Metal Fabricator apprentice or equivalent
