Job Brief
The GIS Technician provides technical services and user support to aid the design and construction groups as well as other departments across the organization. This technical support includes updating various corporate databases used for inventory control, tracking, operating, planning, designing, construction, and maintaining SRP’s distribution operating assets.This support requires knowledge of GIS standards and work processes in order to accurately update real-time information as well as a knowledge of the command structure and object-oriented data base elements required to graphically conform legal description documents into a contiguous land fabric utilizing the Arizona State Plan Coordinate System.
Job Responsibilities
- Produce design drawings using automated/GIS products, maps, exhibits and reports from notes, aerial and satellite photography, marked prints, digital data source, verbal/written instructions, calculations or rough field sketches and maintain GIS database.
- Respond to call outs when assigned. As determined by management, perform variety of technical support functions for distribution operations center during storms and major outages. These tasks could include communicating outage information to police and fire departments. Document and record hazard, outage causes, and other information in Outage Management System.
- Interpret, extract, validate, and integrate engineering and geographic data from internal and external customers, engineers and analysts to construct the required products.
- Perform pre-defined engineering calculations per distribution design policies, procedures, and standards.
- Initiate Quality Assurance Reports and queries to find data errors in connectivity, data model, and non-standard data; make necessary corrections to appropriate databases.
- Make necessary database corrections to GIS, Phoenix, and AMP as required to accurately reflect field conditions.
- Import and maintain and geography data in the Circuits database according to geography standards.
- Prepare, interpret and coordinate processing documents for updating GIS related databases.
- Perform field checks and verify accuracy of maps, exhibits and records.
- Share in the development of GIS applications and mapping procedures. Make recommendations for process improvements.
- Create custom map products for Troubleshooting, System Protection, DOC, Engineering, and others as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Research historical data of distribution equipment for Distribution Operations, Claims, Hazards and Encroachments, and other business units as requested.
- Validate and approve change requests before making these changes to the GIS.
- Accurately update and maintain the SRP Smallworld GIS land database layer.
Education
Experience
At job entry, placement will be determined by a review of college transcripts and related work experience. A minimum of 6 years of related experience is required for the senior level. Once placed into the job family, an employee may become eligible for promotion by demonstrating the ability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by their management and meeting experience requirements.
