Job Brief

SRP is currently seeking an Environmental Laboratory Scientist/Organic Chemist to fill a position in its Environmental Laboratory & Field Services department. Individuals with experience in the analysis of organic contaminants in a licensed laboratory are strongly encouraged to apply. SRP's laboratory operates to provide analytical services to SRP in a technologically sound, timely and cost-effective manner, and to enable SRP to realize its goals and objectives for providing low cost/high value water and energy services. 

Job Responsibilities

•    Performs organic chemistry analyses at SRP's environmental laboratory in accordance with established analytical procedures, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications
•    Produces data that consistently meets the data quality objectives and turnaround time required by SRP customers
•    Possesses experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), including data entry and review
•    Performs proficiency testing, validation studies and method development activities as necessary
•    Performs instrument maintenance and trouble-shooting activities as needed
•    Works independently, safely and efficiently in the performance of job duties
•    Possesses the skills to facilitate evaluation and procurement activities in support of the validation and implementation of new analytical methods and instrumentation
•    Maintains effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public 
•    Possesses the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and to accurately and legibly complete applicable paperwork. 
•    Maintains, evaluates, and disposes of laboratory chemicals, reagents and waste according to the Chemical Hygiene & Safety Plan
•    Performs other duties and analyses as assigned.



Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.


Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years experience at Level 1 and demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of 3 years experience at Level 2, is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

Additional Information

•    Preferred candidates will have 5+ years of combined experience in advanced chromatography techniques including one or more of the following: Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) Gas Chromatography/Electron Capture Detector (GC/ECD) in a regulated environmental laboratory setting. 
•    Experience in performing EPA methods 504.1, 524.2, 624.1, 600/4-81-045, 537.1, 533, 1633 is highly desired.
