Job Brief

Facilities Architect provides expert advice on multiple construction projects and the development of standards, specifications, and master drawing management. Projects are varied and range in scope from minor space modifications to major renovations. The focus of the Facilities Architect services is providing technical assistance, project scope and schematic plan development, construction plans review and inspections of work in accordance with SRP Specifications and applicable building codes. In addition to review of the design phase documents, review of any change documents will also be included.

Job Responsibilities

•    Manage the updating process for the architectural oriented divisions of the SRP Facilities Construction Specifications, Design Guidelines and CAD Details.
•    Review the architectural plans and specifications for new/existing buildings, renovations, and remodeling work.
•    As needed, use computer aided drafting programs to create architectural drawings for design coordination to discuss with the architect of record and other consultants.
•    Review / contribute to project status reports with SRP Project Manager, Stakeholders, and the design team.
•    As needed, perform on-site inspections at in-progress construction sites to verify full compliance with the construction documents and the building code. 
•    Apply understanding of building systems and current construction means, methods and materials.
•    Coordinate daily activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; monitors status of work, inspects completed work, and troubleshoots problem situations.
•    Interpret the provisions of International building codes, energy codes, fire codes, accessibility guidelines (ADAAG), and other applicable building conformance requirements; communicates with other plans examiners, building inspectors, or other staff regarding code interpretation.
•    Research code-related issues as needed; communicates with other plans examiners, building inspectors, or other staff regarding code interpretation.
•    Performing Administrative Activities: Performing day to day administrative tasks such as maintaining information files and processing paperwork and close out materials.



Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.


Five (5) or more years of progressive experience which may include commercial architectural / interior design, project management, general building construction administration, code interpretation, and building inspection; which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

  • Must possess the ability and willingness to perform work within defined specifications and timelines and to manage conflicting priorities.
  • General knowledge of computers and the manipulation of relevant software to perform duties.
  • Working knowledge of building construction materials and methods
  • Must possess the ability to effectively read and interpret architectural drawings, plans, specifications and site plans quickly and accurately, compare them to construction in process and perform building plan reviews
  • Must possess strong and effective spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present clear and concise reports, investigative findings, correspondence, etc.
  • Must have the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships demonstrating tact and diplomacy in all situations with co-workers, contractors, stakeholders, and other business professionals.
  • Preference given to applicants with ten (10) or more years of progressive experience including architectural design, general building construction administration, code interpretation, and building inspection; which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
  • Prefer registration as a Professional Architect with the Arizona Board of Technical Registration.
  • Prefer International Code Council (ICC) Building Plans Examiner and Inspector Certifications
  • Preferred proficiency with BlueBeam, Microsoft Office Suite (including MS Project), and Smartsheet.  AutoCAD knowledge would be a plus.
  • Prefer LEED and / or WELL certification
