Job Brief

Salt River Project (SRP) is hiring a Principal Analyst who will be primarily responsible for providing the strategic direction for Network Management System capabilities, administration and governance necessary to maintain ongoing monitoring, responding, and recovery capabilities of Internet Protocol (IP), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), and Radio Frequency (RF) networks. This position is a key member on the Tools Team of the Telecommunication Operations department within the Telecommunication Systems area at SRP.

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate in-depth technical knowledge of Operating System and application administration utilizing security concepts.
  • Act as a liaison between the SRP Telecom Operations Tools Team, vendors and internal stakeholders with regard to Network Management Systems use and architecture and enhancements.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight in evaluating, developing, and implementing strategies and roadmaps, project plans, goals, yearly objectives, and timelines for Network Management System enhancements and/or replacements.
  • Provide quality customer service to internal stakeholders requesting assistance with NMS monitoring updates and NMS interface with field equipment.
  • Collaborate with dispatchers, engineering, field personnel, vendors, and other staff to provide input and technical services in the development and execution of telecommunication and networking architecture with respect to monitoring and operational needs.
  • Lead efforts with other business units to develop and support activities needed to address any issues with Network Management Systems.
  • Lead, manage and facilitate determination and issue management meetings and discussions.
  • Apply technical expertise in problem solving and creating recommendations or alternative solutions that support departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of documentation plans for NMS programs, standards, processes, and procedures.
  • Interpret stakeholder requirements and work with business unit personnel to apply processes, procedures, and technology to ensure monitoring, response, and recovery capabilities.
  • Communicate relevant and pertinent information in a clear and concise manner and conduct presentations or process training for the business units as necessary.
  • Strategize, plan, direct and participate in the development and implementation of technologies to automate and streamline monitoring, response, and recovery processes.
  • Participate in industry and trade group committees to share information and benchmark Telecommunication Operations practices with best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned



Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution plus an additional 18 graduate level college credits in an area of specialty.


Minimum of 10 years cumulative and progressive post-degree experience

Additional Information

•  Fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and, as such, would be recognized as a subject matter expert in area of assignment and will primarily have lead responsibilities.

•  In-depth understanding of cyber security principles and practices. 
•    Project management, analysis, assessment, and investigation skills to determine recommendations or plans of action.
•    The ability to take initiative and learn with minimal guidance to get up to speed quickly.
•    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and resolve internal or external issues, which may be sensitive in nature.
•    Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team and ability to present alternatives and recommendations diplomatically.
•    Proficient at providing technical presentations of relevant and pertinent information in a clear and concise manner.
•    In-depth knowledge of Virtual Machine (VM) servers, Linux and Windows Server Operating Systems, NMS programs, networks, and telecom technologies
•    Strong proficiency in prioritization and flexibility with assignments and work.
•    Experience with the design and implementation of Network Management Systems.
•    Demonstrated experience using good oral and written communication skills, and the ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
•    Exhibited ability to work under stress and handle stressful situations.
•    Experience in successfully leading projects/initiatives with multiple stakeholders and/or across multiple business units.
Desired Experience
•    10 years experience in the telecommunication or Information Technology (IT) field.
•    Skills and experience with the use of Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMPv3) and Network Management Systems (NMS) in use by SRP Telecommunication Systems.
•    Knowledge of the OSI model, SONET, serial communication, IDS/IPS, IP Switching, IP Routing, Firewalls, Energy Management Systems, RTU's, ICS devices used in the utility industry, TCP/IP, IEC 61850, Modbus, or DNP3.
•    A working knowledge of electric utility transmission and distribution system practices and principles.
•    Knowledge of NERC CIP standards or similar information security, privacy, or regulatory standards (e.g. PCI-DSS, ISO 27001/27002, NIST, HIPAA).
