Job Brief

We are in search for an individual possessing both the ability to analyze, detect, troubleshoot, and communicate anomalies flagged in power plant operational data and the ability to apply advanced analytics and data science skills to this data.  This person will enable to PMC to identify patterns deep within the data, present analytical findings in meaningful ways and further the PMC’s advancement in diagnostic models Additionally, this individual will automate previously manual PMC Processes along the way through the use of Python Programming and other methods. 

Job Responsibilities

Applicants will demonstrate a mix of the following responsibilities:
•    Troubleshoot plant systems, processes and equipment and identify potential failures, limitations, defects, deficiencies or degradation and its causes.
•    Monitor the thermal, mechanical and electrical performance of power plant equipment and systems.  
•    Participate in calls to plants, as necessary, to discuss performance issues, prepare reports and briefings to plant personnel, department and executive management.  
•    Recommend revisions to operating and maintenance procedures as necessitated by the need to improve efficiency and/or reliability.
•    Prepare benefit/cost estimates, and recommend corrective actions, modifications, and replacements, based on the performance of the equipment and processes.  
•    Evaluate and recommend appropriate test procedures to be used to identify and diagnose problems with operating systems or equipment, coordinate with plant personnel to implement, and evaluate test results.  
•    Provide guidance and oversight to assigned plant personnel in the completion of work related to the plant instrumentation and data acquisition required for maintaining performance monitoring software data inputs.  
•    Provide routine maintenance on and update or modify advanced pattern recognition models to account for equipment overhauls, changes in operation, or erroneous data.  
•    Provide routine maintenance on performance calculations.  
•    Lead and facilitate problem solving efforts focused on eliminating root causes or problems found.
•    Develop new and maintain existing scripts, analytics, and algorithms that aid the PMC’s monitoring efforts as well as provide automation of some tasks in programming languages such as Python. 
•    Explore data, research, and develop new advanced models for detection of correlations and anomalies.        
•    Develop and advance new predictive models to aid in plant system optimization.  
•    Run comparison studies on competing models to determine which is the better solution.
•    Participate in Research and Development (R&D) Efforts and aid in the research and testing of advancing data methods and technologies.   
•    Create custom data analytic requests as requested from our customers.  
•    Provide routine maintenance on performance calculations, dashboards, and analytic models.
•    Prepare data visualizations and reports and present them to various groups in the organization.   
•    Use various tools related to Osisoft Pi including Excel Datalink, AF Analytics, and Pi Vision / Processbook.  
•    All other duties as assigned.

Experience

Experience in an engineering-related discipline, data science, computer science, or as a power plant control room operator, or in a similar classification or position. 

Additional Information

Senior Analyst:

Minimum Education:  At least 60 hours of technical college credits or equivalent (e.g. Journeyman-a graduate of appropriate (job-related) apprenticeship program.  Successful completion of Operations Specialist training) with a minimum of 5 years at the journeyman level or above and 10 or more years relevant experience working in a power plant.

 

Alternate:

Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering related discipline with 5 years of experience in an electric industry field.

 

•    Ability to troubleshoot plant systems, processes, and equipment.  
•    Ability to understand P&IDs, Electrical One-lines, Energy Balance, Water Balances, etc. 
•    Analytical understanding of typical power plant equipment, modes of failure, theoretical operating techniques, system design, etc.  
•    Ability to make presentations for Management at all levels in the organization
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to convey advanced statistical concepts to all levels of employees.
•    Advanced Data Visualization Skills
•    Willingness to work evenings and weekends when necessary
•    Knowledge of current database products and methods
•    Knowledge of current performance monitoring and advanced pattern recognition/predictive analytics software
•    Knowledge of data acquisition, storage, and retrieval.
•    Knowledge of basic process improvement skills and techniques
•    Knowledge of Pi Data Historical and associated tools.  
•    Experience with the Python Programming Language for automating processes, manipulating data and building models, analyzing data, and visualizing data through multiple methods.   
•    Well-versed in Microsoft Excel (data filtering, functions, calculations, graphing and trending)
•    Knowledge of a variety of data science techniques (clustering, decision trees, neural networks, etc...) and when they should be applied. 
•    Experience using mathematical and statistical methods to validate and analyze large data sets
