Job Brief
The System Innovation & Development Predictive Analytics Analyst will work cross functionally to bridge the gap between operations and the long-term system planning of SRP’s future power system while achieving or exceeding SRP’s Corporate Goals with the highest customer value. To prepare SRP to quickly transition to a decarbonized grid, this position will analyze and model SRP’s future system while balancing reliability, affordability, and sustainability; participate in industry studies to stay abreast of best modeling and operations practices; and manage projects focused on system occurrences that SRP must anticipate.
Job Responsibilities
- Analysis of the generation, transmission, and distribution systems in an integrated approach utilizing sub-hourly and hourly production cost models while also considering reserves strategy and the impacts of renewable resources, new markets, and battery storage. Apply scenario planning principles and techniques; produce capital, operations & maintenance, and fuel expense requirements associated with the plan.
- Predict future outcomes using historical data combined with simulations, statistical modeling, data mining techniques and/or machine learning, and evaluate economic, operational, and statistical impacts of future business decisions.
- Research latest industry trends and occurrences in relations to system modeling and future planning needs; identify and address gaps.
- Participate in industry groups for modeling, planning, and operations practices.
- Develop answers to complex, open-ended questions involving significant uncertainty and ambiguity with meaningful economic and operational implications.
- Communicate analytical results and recommendations to all levels within SRP as well as external stakeholders.
- Manage projects and studies performed by vendors and consultants
Education
Experience
Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years experience at Level 1 and demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of 3 years experience at Level 2, is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.
Additional Information
- System analytical tools: Long term capacity expansion analysis, production cost modeling, and power flow analysis preferred
- Experience in generation, transmission, and distribution systems or power operations preferred; Understanding of the western interconnect transmission system.
- Familiarity with computer programming preferred (VBA, SQL, Python, C++, R, Matlab, etc.)
- Project management experience preferred
- Demonstrated leadership and critical thinking skills
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Proven track record of taking ownership of processes and procedures
- Curiosity and self-motivation to perform research
- Able to develop and maintain productive business relationships within the company, in the industry, and with other companies.
- Refined communication skills
