Job Brief
The Civil/Structural Design Drafter will focus on power plant and general design including but not limited to structural steel terminology, structural steel layouts, platforms, stairs, roof framing, steel bracing etc. They will partner with various members of the team and from those conversations create sketches to develop the design and detailed structural drawings. The Civil/Structural Design Drafter must have knowledge in concrete layout, concrete terminology, along with rebar layout and detail knowledge.
Job Responsibilities
- Designs or assists with design and application of generating facilities in the structural and civil arena.
- May be involved with project evaluations, surveys, investigations, studies, estimates, drawings, sketches, work order requests, material requests, notice to proceed project documents.
- Provides design package consisting of structural/civil drawings, from own notes, field visits, or engineers concepts.
- Ability to develop connection, bracing detail for steel structures.
- Ability to layout concrete structures including details of concrete reinforcement. Typical concrete design drawings would be of slabs and equipment foundations and pads per engineer's calculations and/or sketches.
- Ability to work with other team engineers and designers in the various disciplines of the organization.
- As a plus, knowledge of power generation processes and plant equipment.
- Assists in the documentation of division design standards and procedures.
- May be required to contact outside agencies such as manufactures and vendors relating to project specifics.
- Must be proficient with the latest version of Bentley Systems MicroStation Connect.
- Requires out of town travel to SRP generating site.
Education
Experience
At job entry, placement will be determined by a review of college transcripts and related work experience. A minimum of 6 years of related experience is required for the senior level. Once placed into the job family, an employee may become eligible for promotion by demonstrating the ability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by their management and meeting experience requirements.
Additional Information
With minimal direction prepares complete engineering drawings or diagrams from own field notes or sketches of delineating engineering systems of equipment, structures, and plant arrangements with sufficient detail in drawings to review with engineer(s) in developing final drawings. The position may involve the ability to answer questions pertaining to field installation.
Must have good oral and written communication skills to assist in coordination activities with project team members and construction personnel. Experience in the use of office programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently on a variety of tasks simultaneously.
