Job Brief

SRP is hiring a Data Engineer to provide support for SAS systems, programs, and visual analytics in the Operations Planning department. Operations Planning provides decision-making analytics and modeling to the energy and gas trading area and power plants of SRP. A variety of work is anticipated, varying from improving SAS programs, Tableau and PowerBI dashboards, and creating metadata to technical documentation.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and troubleshoot SAS programs and reports based on projects and needs of the business
  • Fulfill data requests utilizing SAS for departments across SRP
  • Monitor validity of data and ensure that SAS jobs are working properly
  • Complete documentation for SAS procedures, programs, and data flow
  • Provide metadata for SAS tables
  • Turn business requirements into technical requirements, data designs, models and solutions
  • Find and understand the correct data sources for a given analysis
  • Develop data models and coding ETL/ELT to create useful accessible data models and solutions for analysts to use
  • Create dashboards and lead visual analytics
  • Learn from and share knowledge and skills with your teammates to grow the team's overall benefit to the organization
  • Promote a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement


Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.


Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three-years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will:

Have experience in the following:

  • Programming (SAS, C#, Python).
  • Relational databases, SQL Reporting & Integration Services (SSRS & SSIS)
  • Software Development Lifecycle with experience in both Waterfall and Agile methodologies
  • Software version control, merging/branching, and code migration
  • Database design and application web services
  • Developing web services
  • Integrating disparate systems
  • Tableau or PowerBI
  • Be a team player with a positive attitude, enthusiasm, initiative, and self-motivation.
  • Understand and reflect a relentless focus on customers and partners.
  • Have proven skills in analyzing and developing business requirements.
  • Possess strong organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a dynamic trading floor environment.
  • Creativity in solution design to achieve impactful, highly functional and supportable solutions
  • Ability to translate or transform complicated or technical information into simple and clear communications for non-technical and business audiences
  • Have effective communication, written and verbal.
  • Have proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, with more emphasis on Excel and Word.


Experience with any of the following is a plus:

  • Microsoft Team Foundation Server (TFS)
  • Microsoft Visual Studio
  • Microsoft Azure DevOps
  • Git
