Job Brief

As a Cloudera Platform Engineer in the Analytics Center of Excellence (ACE) at Salt River Project, your role is to be an expert at maintaining the reliability and a positive user experience on our Cloudera Data Platform. You will also have a strong understanding of SRP's data and how to use it to create meaningful models and solutions. You will create & support data models, data flows, and algorithms to solve interesting business problems. If you are detail orientated, can architect platforms in a way that ensures their availability, enjoy making information more accessible and easier to use for analytics, like to think of clever ways to solve tricky data problems, and you love working in a collaborative team environment, this is a great opportunity for you.

Job Responsibilities

• Understanding business stakeholders' objectives, guiding them in a process to draw out the metrics that are the most important to them, and how they measure their performance
• Administration of Hadoop ecosystem services HDFS, Yarn, Hive, Hue, Impala, Kafka, Oozie, Ranger, Spark, Solr, Tez, Atlas, HBase
• Turning business requirements into technical requirements, data designs, models, and solutions
• Finding and understanding the correct data sources for a given analysis
• Developing data models and coding ETL/ELT to create useful accessible data models and solutions for analysts across the enterprise to use
• Learning from and sharing knowledge and skills with your teammates to grow the team's overall benefit to the organization
• Administration of data science platform Cloudera Data Science Workbench


Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.


Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three-years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

Knowledge & Experience
• Experience developing and/or maintaining: data models, ETL/ELT, queries, and data science models in a business analytics, data warehousing or business intelligence setting
• Able to translate business needs and data into models that support KPIs, visualizations, or interactive dashboards that influence behavior
• Familiarity with reporting and visualization tools
• Curiosity and passion about utilizing analytics and data to solve problems
• Willing to ask questions and challenge data accuracy and assumptions
• Creative in solution design to achieve impactful, highly functional and supportable solutions
• Ability to translate or transform complicated or technical information into simple and clear communications for non-technical and business audiences
• Excellent communication, and presentation skills for a variety of audiences from entry-level employees to executive staff

Additional Information

Responsible for planning, scheduling, and monitoring for projects. Occasional contacts with vendors of software, equipment and services. Occasional travel to industry organizational functions and SRP facilities. Ability to work effectively using the services of various organizational groups within SRP. Depending on assignment, frequent requirement to work with confidential data such as payroll and employee information.

Desired Technical Skills
• Development/Query languages: SQL (T-SQL, PL/SQL, HiveQL, Impala etc.), R, Python, ABAP
• Platforms/Tools: Cloudera Hadoop, Microsoft BI Stack (SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, etc.), Tableau, SAS, Business Objects, Web Intelligence
• Capable of installation and administration of Cloudera CDP 7.x/Hadoop 3 software stack
• Perform upgrades to Cloudera Manager, CDP, CDSW along with support for Linux Server Patching
• Adding and removing cluster nodes
• Implement Hadoop cluster security using Kerberos, LDAP, AD integration
• Strong RedHat Linux knowledge (security, configuration, tuning, troubleshooting, monitoring)
• Understanding of Java/JDBC as needed for support of open source technologies
• Excellent troubleshooting skills across the whole platform stack
• Solve live performance and stability issues and prevent recurrence
• Ability to support data engineering efforts and ETL pipelines
• Ability to support data science teams using Python, R, Scala
• Implement backup and recovery strategies based on Cloudera Replication Manager
• Solid scripting skills - shell, Python, Powershell
• Assist with Cloud strategy and migration of platform to the cloud
