Job Brief

Provide research and technology transfer services for the corporate research program with responsibility for formulation of research program direction and framework in a timely and cost executive manner to enable SRP to realize its goals and objectives for water and energy related services.

Job Responsibilities

  • Investigate and evaluate research, development and demonstration project issues, options and opportunities to reduce cost, improve efficiency and support corporate objectives.
  • Perform research and technology assessments in an area of technical specialty requiring significant knowledge in related fields.
  • Seek out, identify, develop, initiate and manage research projects of pertinence and interest to SRP and the department.
  • Actively develops and trains engineers on technical, project management, and/or best practices related activities. Identifies or creates development opportunities. 
  • When required/requested, serves on industry committees and task forces as a representative of SRP.
  • Demonstrates substantive thought leadership to further new ideas, products, services, and/or business processes to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and/or customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrates substantive leadership in organizational change management to foster the success of new business products, services, and/or business processes.
  • Prepare briefs on strategic research for management review and action.
  • Performs as the facilitator for the transfer and utilization of research information and results.
  • Identify, develop and implement new methods, techniques and processes, for the dissemination of research information.
  • Serve as a liaison and information source on selected research issues and interests to other SRP departments and outside research organizations or groups.
  • Provide analytical support to technical staff, supervision and management.
  • Performs as an advisor providing information and guidance on research issues, opportunities and problems to SRP departments and other entities.
  • Prepares and/or conducts written and oral reports and presentations.

10 years professional experience actively engaged in electric utility engineering practice.

Experience in the administration, implementation and management of research, development and demonstration programs and projects.

Demonstration of the following knowledge and skills:

  • Understanding of SRP corporate operations and energy business.
  • Broad knowledge of technical and scientific principles and ability to use them to assess research needs.
  • Understanding of and ability to use research information management principles and techniques to facilitate technology transfer and utilization of research. 

Additional Information

Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum
1. Additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA, or 18 graduate level college semester hours from an accredited institution in an engineering related field)
2. State Professional Engineering Registration

Responsible for budgets, schedules and management of resources for major research projects and activities. Regular contacts with other utilities, external research organizations and outside agencies. Occasional travel for research review meetings and specialized training. Ability to work effectively with various organization groups within SRP and lead project teams. Provide technical counsel to SRP and outside groups on research issues of importance to SRP and the utility industry. Effective interpersonal skills to communicate research information and results to SRP staff, management and outside agencies and facilitate technology transfer.
