Job Brief

The Senior Principal Engineer on the Distribution Strategy team functions as the chief technical strategist for the evolution of the distribution system. The job requires an individual with a high level of technical expertise, a broad experience base, the ability to evolve in a rapidly changing industry environment, a detailed knowledge of electric systems, and the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences including customers, management, executives, policy makers, industry experts and students.  The position requires an established track record of strong interpersonal skills, education, and experience at the senior principal level to be successful.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide thought leadership in the development of distribution strategies, roadmaps and their implementation to better integrate with other planning departments, operations, pricing programs and customer programs.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert both internally and externally and as a key point of contact for questions related to distribution strategy, system planning, distributed energy resources (DER), transportation electrification, industry trends and engineering.

  • Lead research with local universities and other research partners on technologies or processes that improve distribution system reliability and efficiency, and customer technologies that could impact SRP's distribution system. Authors papers with research partners. Leads teams to implement research results and shares knowledge internally.

  • Provide integrated planning expertise and facilitates implementation of new thinking and new processes that enable better utilization of infrastructure and the integration of lower carbon technologies.

  • Tracks latest industry developments on distribution system emerging technologies and processes and provides strategic guidance to executive management on SRP's Distribution Enablement efforts.

  • Utilizes distribution system modeling expertise to provide strategic guidance and input on the development of the Distribution System Strategic Plan, and on special projects such as the Advanced Inverter Project.

  • Mentors and directs the work of less senior staff.  

  • Provides technical oversight and is either the final decision maker or makes the final recommendation for management approval on complex technical issues.

Experience

14 years professional experience actively engaged in engineering plus professional recognition.

 

Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work as defined for this position.

Additional Information

If internal, Candidates must attain a Valued Contributor or better rating on their annual performance review for the last three years.

 

Responsible for budgets, schedules, and management of resources for programs and projects of major scope. Demonstrated network of internal and external contacts including customers, outside agencies, and suppliers of significant equipment and services. Occasional travel to suppliers' facilities, industry functions, and SRP facilities. Ability to work effectively with various organizations within SRP. Ability to use engineering tools required for the job. Must have a valid driver's license.

Ability to work effectively with SRP executive management.

 

                                                     
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum


AND


1) Additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA, or 36 graduate level college semester hours)

 

OR


2) State Professional Engineering Registration plus additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA, or 18 graduate level college semester hours).

Certifications or Testing Required

Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.
