Job Brief
SRP is currently recruiting for an IBR Integration Engineer to lead the safe and reliable integration of utility scale inverter-based resources (IBRs) to the SRP power delivery system. Provide technical guidance internally and represent SRP within the utility industry to meet the renewable energy transition.
Knowledge & Skills
• Knowledge of power transmission and distribution fundamentals including substation equipment application
• Familiarity with design and safety practices including IEEE, ANSI, ASTM, NEC, and NESC
• Familiarity with electrical drawings and standards
• Ability to work effectively within SRP as well as entities outside of SRP
• Must be able to work as a member of a team and handle multiple tasks and priorities
• Excellent organizational and communication skills both oral and written
• Skilled at communicating complex concepts to varying audience
• A history of building strong relationships with customers, internal and external
• Willing to think critically and offer solutions to complex problems
Education
Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
Professional Engineering Registration (PE) is desired.
• Five years full time engineering experience in the electric utility industry
• Leadership of electrical power system projects involving inter-departmental teams and/or outside entities
• Background in power electronics with a focus on integrating Inverter Based Resources (IBRs) relating to transmission/distribution systems
• Previous experience with siting, scoping, interconnection, facility studies, design, commissioning, and/or operation of large scale IBRs, including solar/wind generation and energy storage
• Prefer experience with IBR integration including control systems, control interfaces, performance monitoring (including power quality), and/or troubleshooting
Five (5) years full time experience actively engaged in engineering practice. Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for the job of Senior Engineer.
Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.
Additional Information
Responsible for project budgets and schedules. Occasional contacts with customers and outside agencies. Contacts with suppliers of equipment and services. Occasional travel to suppliers facilities, industry organizational functions and SRP facilities. Ability to work effectively with various organizational groups within SRP. Ability to use engineering tools required for the job (i.e., computer, test equipment, etc.).
Provide various engineering support to facilitate the safe and reliable adoption of a large penetration of IBRs on the SRP system
• Provide technical leadership and oversight related to suitability, compatibility, and interoperability of IBR resources and the existing power system
• Coordinate centralized engineering resources supporting new and existing IBR installations
• Develop and provide training on procedures or standards related to IBRs
• Act as an engineering project leader, manage project budget/schedule, and provide assistance for field installation and startup
• Administer, review, and evaluate technical studies and analysis performed by consultants or others
• Prepare written and oral reports and conduct presentations
• Participate in industry forums and organizations
• Travel for job related purposes
