Job Brief

Provides comprehensive knowledge of industrial hygiene concerns, rules, regulations and legislation. Establishes measurements, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards at the salt river project. Conducts scientific investigation of potential occupational health hazards.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conducts initial and continuing industrial hygiene inspections and surveys of SRP plants, jobs, facilities, etc., relative to occupational health.
  • Develops/implements plans and programs to assure SRP compliance with OSHA standards as they apply to industrial hygiene.
  • Directs industrial hygiene workplace monitoring and maintains record-keeping programs to assure on-going compliance with OSHA and other agencies.
  • Analyzes results of industrial hygiene monitoring and recommends engineering and or administrative control measures to assure well being of SRP employees.
  • Provides guidance to SRP departments in regard to matters of industrial hygiene and occupational health
  • Conducts research on industrial health matters to assess their impact on SRP and provides advice accordingly.
  • Conducts noise exposure monitoring
  • Establishes working relationships with industrial hygienist in other utilities and industries.

Education

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years related experience for the senior level. Experience as an industrial hygienist, industrial toxicologist, hygiene specialist or environmental health specialist is preferred.

Additional Information

  • A Master's or Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene from an ABET-accredited university is preferred.
  • American Board of Industrial Hygiene Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
  • Ability to instruct all field and shop supervisors about precautions to be followed in the use of various toxic substances.
  • Ability to conduct employee education and training programs for the handling and disposal of toxic substances.
  • Knowledge of the principles of chemistry, biology, engineering, toxicology, epidemiology, noise, and occupational health.
  • Knowledge of occupational health standards, OSHA regulations, and other health laws and regulations applicable to water and electric utilities.
  • Skill in using industrial hygiene sampling instruments and analytical equipment.
  • Ability to evaluate the work environment for potential health hazards.
  • Knowledge and ability to recommend control measures for health hazards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with superiors and subordinates.
  • Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit testing and training required
