Job Brief
Provides accurate location of underground electric, water, communications and gas facilities for internal and external, customers. Provides accurate documentation of locates in compliance with state laws.
Job Responsibilities
- Protect SRP facilities by locating SRP underground electric, water communications, gas, and reclaimed water facilities in a safe/efficient manner as per SRP policies and insuring compliance with Arizona State laws.
- Operate and maintain all assigned locating equipment.
- Analyze and apply SRP electric, water, communication, and groundwater construction prints and schematics.
- Operate assigned vehicle in a safe and lawful manner using SRP safety programs.
- Provide and maintain effective communication with internal/external customers resolving minor disputes.
- Investigate excavation damage to SRP facilities and provide detailed reports of findings.
- Respond to emergency call-out and work overtime as required.
- Provide accurate data entry and documentation of all locates.
- Process locate requests using a laptop computer and wireless communications.
Education
Experience
- At entry Level, 1 year related experience.
- Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of one year experience at Level 1 as an SRP Locator or contract Locator for SRP for a minimum of one year; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor and completion of minimum 15 credit hours related to the assignment. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of two years’ experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of locating and managing assignments and would be recognized as an expert in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.
- Experience in construction or locating underground facilities or experience working on SRP's Distribution System as a Tradeshelper, Groundman, Operator, Truckdriver, Apprentice, Mapper/Drafter or construction experience.
Additional Information
- Valid Arizona Driver's License
- Must possess effective communication and customer service skills. Locators routinely interact with contractors and other outside agencies. Must maintain positive customer relations to protect SRP's interests and assets.
- Ability to maintain extremely high level of accuracy in the performance of this job is critical. Performance levels are monitored.
- Ability to read and interpret civil, electrical, water, communications, gas, and groundwater facilities diagrams, plans and profiles.
- Knowledge of SRP coordinate system.
- Knowledge of SRP section, township and range coordinate system.
- Ability to maintain safe driving record.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to identify problems and render a sound decision based on documented fact.
- Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
