Job Brief

Performs as project leader and assists department manager in directing the duties of acquiring, developing, or contracting for new generation resources.  Oversees competitive procurement processes for generation resources and leads complex transaction negotiations with developers and power producers.  Directs and conducts analysis of resource options, including emerging technologies.  Leads cross-functional project teams on significant departmental and company initiatives and communicates results to various levels of SRP management and external stakeholders. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the implementation of renewable and energy storage projects that SRP has contracted
  • Leads the group in the investigation and evaluation of future resource options and opportunities to help meet SRP's load requirements and achieve corporate goals. These decisions have a direct and lasting impact on SRP's financial performance.
  • Present results of analysis and recommended courses of action to executive management involving resource decisions valued at hundreds of millions of dollars.
  • Develop and maintain strategic alliances with new entrants into the electric business, including power marketers, power producers, renewable and energy storage developers, and industry leaders.
  • Train new analysts in resource planning, acquisition, and development. Provide direction to analysts in the development of new resource alternatives.
  • Works closely with leaders in financial services, supply and trading, generation engineering, transmission planning, power operations, and other SRP groups.
  • Performs as project leader on significant departmental and company initiatives; directs work activities of cross-functional team members and outside consultants. 
  • Directly assists in the development of others’ knowledge, skills, and abilities. 
  • Performs as project leader in contracting for new generation resources, including RFP oversight, negotiation of power purchase agreements, and preparation and communication of results and approval materials for executive management and the SRP Board. 
  • Leads cross-functional teams of technical and subject matter experts from across the company. 
  • Develops new grid-scale generation resources, including siting, permitting, technology selection, and determination of fuel supply, transmission, and water supply requirements. 
  • Performs as project leader in new resource acquisition, including RFP process oversight, asset due diligence, negotiation of required agreements, and completion of transaction closing activities. 
  • Directs and conducts economic, operational, and statistical analysis of new generation and demand-side resource options, including emerging technologies. 
  • Assesses Electric Transmission Requirements. 
  • Oversees Strategic Competitive Market analyses and Business Studies. 
  • Analyzes the economic and operational impacts of environmental and other regulatory policy proposals and develop responses to these proposals on an SRP-specific and state-wide basis. 
  • Develops answers to complex, open-ended questions involving significant uncertainty and ambiguity with meaningful economic and operational implications.
  • Communicates analytical results and recommendation to all levels within SRP as well as external stakeholders.


Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.


A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in a related field.
