Job Brief

Supervises a team of project managers who oversee design and construction activities of building system improvements and replacements, new construction, and interior renovations. Provides leadership, direction and removes barriers to assist project managers in managing design and construction projects from initiation to closeout. High-level project activities include working with project teams to develop scope, produce design and construction drawings, conduct pre-construction meetings, provide contractor oversight, and monitor the project scope, schedule, and budget. Must have outstanding communication/people skills to coordinate activities with internal departments and assist project teams with planning projects in operational facilities to mitigate business interruptions during project implementation. Required to have technical knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and other building systems. The position is fast-paced with a heavy workload. Some nights and weekend work is required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supervises project managers responsible for the design and construction of building system improvements and replacements, new construction, and interior renovations
  • Assigns design and construction projects based on project manager availability, experience, expertise, and workload
  • Plans and directs project manager activities to complete projects within scope, and on schedule and budget.
  • Oversees the design and construction of projects throughout the initiation, planning, execution and closeout project life cycle
  • Leads and assists project managers in directing architects, engineers, designers, technicians and contractors in completing design and construction projects
  • Provides technical and procedural advice to project managers while working with architects, engineers, designers, technicians, contractors and internal customers
  • Provides successful project results by adequately defining project purpose and scope, proper project and resource planning, evaluating milestone assumptions and conclusions, and evaluating change orders
  • Ensures consistent project results by making sure designers and contractors comply with design standards, construction specifications, and building codes and city ordinances
  • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing safety standards and procedures and complying with legal requirements


Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.


Degree in project management, architecture, business, or in a field of engineering preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) credential also a plus.

Candidate must have seven years of recent experience in commercial design and construction including engineering, project management and construction contracts. At least two of these years spent in a supervisory or management role of these functions.

  • Candidate must have management experience of design processes, horizontal and vertical construction, project team resources and general contractors
  • Must be able to manage professional employees and consultants to provide proper direction and supervision to assist in day to day activities managing various design and construction projects
  • Must have knowledge of design and construction disciplines related to commercial building envelope, building systems, architecture, and interior design
  • Must have working knowledge of building codes and city ordinances
  • Must be capable of estimating design and construction costs
  • Must have exceptional customer service, good written and verbal communication, and outstanding people skills
