Summary
Under limited supervision, performs complex duties involving operation of the SRP’s Telecommunication Systems. Exercises monitoring and control of telecommunication electronic devices and systems for power, water and commercial telecommunications operations, generating sources, transmission lines, substations and various systems within SRP. Work involves highly specialized equipment used to monitor and control the power system.
What You'll Do
- Has full responsibility and authority to take reasonable action necessary to ensure reliable telecommunication systems operations.
- Directs telecommunications system operations in accordance with established policies and procedures of SRP that are consistent with safe use of equipment and personnel.
- Responsible for the operation of the SRP’s telecommunication systems and interconnections with utilities incorporating new technology.
- Directs planned and real-time system events of telecommunication facilities for purpose of issuing clearances to authorized personnel.
- Serves as representative of SRP with interconnected companies and neighboring utilities involving immediate and/or long-range operating issues.
- Collects, logs and records telecommunication system data, prepares operating reports and historical records.
- Directs maintenance outages on SRP’s telecommunication systems and facilities which affect power, water and commercial telecommunications system operations.
- Works with other divisions and departments to ensure effective and cooperative construction, operations and maintenance programs.
- Monitors and controls telecommunications equipment
- Directs emergency system operations and restores the telecommunication systems to normal operation following interruptions.
- Communicates with field operations technical personnel by telephone, email or Instant Messaging (IM) for incident response, materials requirements and related matters under normal and emergency conditions.
- Other duties as assigned.
What It Takes To Succeed
Must possess detailed knowledge of SRP’s telecommunications systems; specifically, the Wide Area Network (WAN), Field Area Network (FAN), Infrastructure & Radio (I&R) Networks and Corporate Telephone Network. Must possess knowledge of how the above-mentioned telecommunications systems provide ability to operate SRP’s power, water and commercial telecommunication operations.
- Knowledge of SRP’s telecommunications, power and water operations systems, including geographical location of all facilities, telecommunication system characteristics and limits of operating equipment.
- Knowledge of Wide Area Network (WAN), Operations Network (OPSNET), Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) based communication operations equipment and GUI interfaces.
- Knowledge of operational issues with other utilities, theory and practice of telecommunications transmit and receive protocols.
- Knowledge of relay systems and control systems utilizing the WAN and OPSNET for generating plants, transmission and distribution and water systems.
- Supervises and trains dispatchers of lower grades in general system operating practices and procedures; directs field Technicians in daily duties.
- Responsible for proper operation and security of SRP’s, external telecommunications and interconnected utilities shared facilities.
- Responsible for proper handling of customer complaints and providing solutions for internal and external contacts, processes and procedures.
- Ability to perform duties methodically despite frequent interruptions, stressful and dynamic situations.
- Ability to analyze situations and take corrective action because of unplanned system failures and major system events.
- Responsible for telecommunications system modification procedures and enforcing SRP safety practices, including system-wide No Touches.
- Responsible for notifying proper personnel in case of damage to SRP telecommunication equipment and facilities resulting from accidents or security breach.
- Moderate to complex level used in writing routine correspondence, logging, report writing, text editing, etc..
- Support AGC, PDO, DOC, ADC, Security and Metering operations dispatch personnel with telecommunications system disturbances in an effective manner.
Experience
Education and experience required to perform entry level responsibilities:
High school or G.E.D. plus coursework with emphasis in electrical or information technology, field experience and apprenticeship courses associated with electronic system or associated technology fields.
Level 2:
Two years experience as Dispatcher 1 or equivalent
Senior Level:
Two years experience as Dispatcher 2 or equivalent
It is also possible to substitute two (2) years experience as a senior electronics technician specific to transport and operations network systems, or equivalent SONET or IP network operating systems.
Education
Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
