Summary

This Distribution Performance engineer is responsible for creating the models, defining tool requirements, and finding data sources to help create short- and long-term planning solutions for the distribution system that enable renewable technologies and electric transportation while maintaining grid integrity. This engineer will work closely with teams across SRP focused on serving existing customers, expanding, and improving SRP's electric distribution system, and incorporating new technologies (solar, storage, electric vehicles, demand response). This position provides engineering services in a technically sound, safe, timely and cost-effective manner to enable SRP to realize its goals for providing energy related services. 

What You'll Do

•    Participates in the creation of models, data sources, and tool requirements needed to help plan SRP's distribution system. This includes initiating stages of the planning process, reviewing and validating the results of analysis, authoring reports, and presenting outcomes to stakeholders and executive management.
•    Serves as a subject matter expert on the planning and engineering of the distribution system for modernization, growth, electric vehicles (EV), distributed energy resources (DER), aging infrastructure, automation, and enhanced customer services.
•    Monitors power quality on the grid and grows the team's power quality capability by expanding reactive and proactive monitoring & trending and predictive analysis.
•    Turns business requirements into technical requirements, data designs, models, and solutions with the embedded IT development team.
•    Skilled at finding and understanding the correct data sources (like Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) data, Geographic Information System (GIS) data, and Customer Information System (CIS) data) for a given analysis.
•    Leads research with universities and other research partners on technologies or processes that improve distribution planning and grid performance in a rapidly changing industry environment. 
•    Tracks latest industry developments on emerging technologies and processes related to grid modernization and provides strategic guidance to management on SRP's modernization efforts.
•    Performs as an engineering project manager on special projects/programs which are large or have many complex features.
•    Serves on industry committees and task forces as a representative of SRP.

What It Takes To Succeed

Responsible for project budgets and schedules. Occasional contacts with customers and outside agencies. Contacts with suppliers of equipment and services. Occasional travel to suppliers facilities, industry organizational functions and SRP facilities. Ability to work effectively with various organizational groups within SRP. Ability to use engineering tools required for the job (i.e., computer, test equipment, etc.).
1.    Knowledge of safe work practices in the office and in the field.
2.    Ability to effectively work with various organizational groups inside and outside of SRP.
3.    Ability to use engineering tools required for the job (i.e., computer, monitoring equipment, etc.).
4.    Knowledge of computer systems, databases and networks used for collecting, interpreting, and reporting on electric system data.
5.    Oral, written and presentation skills.

Experience

Five (5) years full time experience actively engaged in engineering practice. Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for the job of Senior Engineer.

Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor.  Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

Education

Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution, ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) or any state or internationally recognized PE registration.

Testing and Certifications

Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.

 

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
