Summary

Provide engineering support in achieving the safe, reliable and efficient operation of SRP's transmission system, Inverter Based Resource commissioning and monitoring, Balancing Authority area and energy markets.

What You'll Do

  • Support engineering activities on major TGO projects and initiatives.  Examples include New Markets Implementation, Operator Training Simulator, New Facility Integration, Inverter Based Resource commissioning and performance monitoring, and control center tools. 
  • Collaborate with System Operators and support groups to improve operating tools for enhanced situational awareness and improved reliability of the transmission system and Balancing Authority Area.
  • Perform engineering analyses and studies in support of real-time operations during major system events and emergencies.
  • Perform system event investigations, support root cause analyses and implement corrective action plans. 
  • Prepare and conduct written and oral reports/presentations to various levels of SRP management and industry groups.
  • Provide engineering analysis when administering and reviewing work performed by consultants and others, including neighboring utilities. 
  • When required/requested, serves on industry committees and task forces as SRP's representative.
  • Identify, communicate, and implement improvements to system operation in collaboration with Grid Operation Shift Managers and other key support groups.
  • Support organizational change management to foster the success of new or improved operational tools and business processes.
  • Develop, enhance, review and approve Operating Practices and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC Reliability Standards, FERC Orders, and SRP Policies and Operating Practices.
  • Support System Operator/Dispatcher training program by developing, instructing and administering training.

What It Takes To Succeed

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on solid presentation skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple responsibilities at one time.
  • Manage relationships with peers and other support groups to ensure departmental and project objectives are met in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work effectively with various organizations within SRP.
  • Ability to use engineering tools required for the job.

 

 

Knowledge with the following a plus:

  • Energy Management System (EMS) Applications including Power Flow, Contingency Analysis and the Operator Training Simulator.
  • Balancing Authority operations, Transmission Markets and the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM), other market operations.
  • Control Room Tools: EMS/ SCADA, j5, iTOA OMS, PCI Gen Manager, Pi Process Book, Pi Asset Framework and Reserve Sharing Group interfaces.

 

Certifications or Testing Required:

NERC Reliability Coordination Certification required within two years after acquiring the position.

 

 

Experience

Five (5) years full time experience actively engaged in engineering practice. Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for the job of Senior Engineer.

Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor.  Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

Education

Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution, ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) or any state or internationally recognized PE registration.

Testing and Certifications

Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.

 

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
