Summary

First line leader of System Operators and Power Dispatchers. Has oversight of the real-time operation of SRP’s Bulk Electric System. This includes Transmission Operations, Balancing Authority Area Operations, Transmission Market and Energy Imbalance Market. 

What You'll Do

•    Provide leadership in achieving the safe, reliable and efficient operation of SRP’s transmission system, Balancing Authority Area, and the Energy Imbalance Market.
•    Provide overall control room oversight and management support during major system events and emergencies.
•    Communicate effectively with direct reports, management, and other SRP departments on operating issues.
•    Collaborate with System Operators/Dispatchers and support groups to improve operating tools for better situational awareness and improved reliability of the transmission system and Balancing Authority Area.
•    Identify, communicate, and implement improvements to system operation in collaboration with other Grid Operation Supervisors.
•    Ensure compliance with NERC Standards, FERC Orders, and SRP Policies and Operating Practices.
•    Support System Operator/Dispatcher training program by developing, instructing, and administering training.
•    Develop, review, and approve Operating Practices.
•    Represent department in inter-department meetings.
•    Lead various projects and initiatives as assigned.
•    Provide oversight of Energy Management System development and changes.
•    Maintain operational readiness of the primary and backup control centers.
•    Schedule personnel to ensure required staffing levels and effectively manage overtime.
•    Review planned and real-time outages and engineering reports, provide operational assessment if required.
•    Represent SRP with other utilities, the Reliability Coordinator, and industry groups.
•    Investigate switching errors, outages, system emergencies and report to management the circumstances and root cause.
•    Meet departmental goals and objectives as required.

What It Takes To Succeed

EDUCATION: Completion of an appropriate Apprenticeship or Plant Operator training program or equivalent or completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.
 
NERC Reliability Coordination Certification is required within one year after acquiring the position. 

Perform duties on rotating shifts or day shift. May rotate between these work schedules.

Experience

Minimum of 7 years cumulative and progressive professional experience, including experience as a System Operator, Power Dispatcher, Working Foreman, Engineer, Analyst or supervisor in a power system related field.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
