Summary

Focused on leadership and support for existing distribution grid operations including triage of real-time issues, development of operating procedures and onboarding operational changes. Facilitates coordination with various engineering organizations and development and upgrade of engineering Standards related to operational improvements and new technologies.  Support electrification integration including R&D lab/pilot activities that impact Distribution Operations.  Promote and facilitate the growth of engineering and operations staff.

Apply in-depth technical distribution, technology and engineering knowledge and expertise to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the distribution network while providing cost-effective and timely solutions for customers (internal and external).  Ability to interface with internal stakeholders including customer and technology teams, engineering and design teams, grid operations and occasionally external stakeholders to collaborate on technology and solutions to modernize the distribution grid.

Responsible for project budgets and schedules. Occasional travel to supplier’s facilities, industry organizational functions and SRP facilities. Ability to work effectively with various organizational groups within SRP. 

What You'll Do

 

  • In-depth knowledge of power systems analysis and engineering applications
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Access, Visio and Outlook
  • Project development and/or project management experience
  • Must possess comprehensive knowledge of energy analysis, engineering applications, business, and finance, working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, practices, and methods in the area of individual's discipline.
  • Experience with Distribution Operations is a plus
  • Experience with Inverter Based Resources is a plus
  • Masters (MS, MSEE) in Engineering with an emphasis in power systems or Professional engineer (PE) designation.
  • Experience in transmission or distribution planning or transmission or distribution operations, generator interconnection studies, short circuit studies, knowledge of relay and protection concepts, power system simulation software Synergi or similar tool, data science concepts.

 

What It Takes To Succeed

Responsible for budgets, schedules, and management of resources for programs and projects of major scope. Demonstrated network of internal and external contacts including customers, outside agencies, and suppliers of significant equipment and services. Occasional travel to suppliers' facilities, industry functions, and SRP facilities. Ability to work effectively with various organizations within SRP. Ability to use engineering tools required for the job. Must have a valid driver's license.

 

Additional Information: Education:

EITHER I OR II

I - Completion of a bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA)

     And

1. Additional specialty training (MS Engineering, MBA, or 18 graduate level college semester hours from an accredited institution in an engineering related field)

      OR

2. Any state or internationally recognized Professional Engineering registration by the International Professional Engineers Agreement.

 

II - Any state or internationally recognized Professional Engineering registration by the International Professional Engineers Agreement.

   And

 Additional specialty training (18 graduate level college semester hours from an accredited institution)

Experience

Ten (10) years full time professional experience actively engaged in engineering practice.

Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work as defined for this position.

Contributed to the authoring, publishing and/or presenting of internal or external technical papers.

Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.

 

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
