Summary

Perform, analyze, support, and/or coordinate corporate and operational water planning, projects, and management studies related to the department's mission. Provide direction on part of a large project or overall direction on a total project of moderate scope. Additional responsibilities may include development, operation, and maintenance of water resource planning and supporting other departments and outside agencies requiring water resource planning data and/or assistance.

What You'll Do

  • Performs and/or coordinates planning, engineering and management studies of programs and activities for part of a large project or for a total project of moderate scope. (planning, quantity and quality resource management, treatment, demands, facilities, etc.)
  • Provides analytical expertise related to planning.
  • Supports and coordinates joint water planning activities with other entities.
  • Assists negotiation of water-related agreements.
  • Develops, operates, and maintains water resource planning activities.
  • Supports SRP's involvement in regional water resource planning activities.
  • Supports other departments and outside agencies requiring or planning data and/or assistance related to planning.
  • Prepares specifications, evaluations of bids, and development of purchasing/contracting recommendations of moderate scope.
  • Supports SRP's emergency flood operations center, as requested.
  • Develop relationships with local and state agencies, along with third party water providers, to assist in their water resource planning efforts.
  • Assist in managing the Gila River Water Storage (GRWS) and its associated customer interactions and company policies.

What It Takes To Succeed

Responsible for budgets, schedules, and management or resources for projects of moderate scope. Required confidentiality, contacts with suppliers of significant and important services, and contacts with customers/shareholders within and outside SRP.  Frequent contact with regulatory agencies, land management agencies, water users and the public, sometimes under adversarial conditions. Ability to lead other SRP groups through input/review of agreements being negotiated to ensure SRP objectives are achieved. Ability to maintain confidential materials during negotiation and water rights litigation processes. Effective interpersonal skills to work with internal and external contacts. Ability to adjust hours to accommodate rush projects, to work effectively with various groups within and outside SRP, and the ability to perceive criteria affecting the future.

Experience

A minimum of 5 years experience actively engaged in water resource/facility planning or a related field.  Experience in water rights administration, water and/or natural resources administration, hydrology, watershed management, economics, finance, quantitative business analysis, contract negotiations or administration is preferred. Should have knowledge of, and experience in, Arizona water resources, Arizona or western water law. Experience with municipal water suppliers or water districts may be useful.

Education

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.

 

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
