Summary

Salt River Project (SRP), the nation’s third-largest public power and water utility is seeking a college student for a paid internship for its Strategic Engagement department in Tempe, AZ. The college student intern will support Public Affairs primarily with SRP’s partnerships with trade groups and chambers of commerce, including tracking and summarizing business positions, event participation, document management, marketing materials and support for chamber events, creating event material and conducting research as needed. 

 

This role provides an excellent opportunity for a college student to gain hands-on experience on utility industry’s interaction and collaboration with the chambers of commerce and the business community across the State, and to gain an understanding of how public policy impacts customers and other stakeholders. 

What You'll Do

Actively participate in opportunities to gain an understanding about energy and water policy and operational issues. 

Research, update and maintain internal and external contact directories (Chambers, Employees on Boards and Committees, Internal and External Potential Guests). 

Conduct research on chambers of commerce and other trade group data. 

Participate in bi-weekly marketing meetings, Policy & Strategy meetings and other discussions with Public Affairs and adjacent department members. 

Draft show flows for Strategic Engagement events. 

Organize, produce, and/or deliver event and meeting materials as needed.

Summarize chamber event program content and attendance. 

Document SRP produced engagement opportunities and attendance. 

Draft communications in support of event participation. 

Maintain and publish profile of event info.  

Support Strategic Engagement and Chamber events as necessary. 

Other tasks as assigned. 

What It Takes To Succeed

  • Currently enrolled in a college program in Hospitality, Business Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field.  

  • Strong analytical and research skills.  

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).  

Schedule Salary/Hours/Hybrid Workplace: 

  • This is a paid opportunity for a college student working 20-30 hours, Monday through Friday.  

  • This is an in-person/in office job opportunity; selected candidate may also cover events offsite. 

  • College student must live and work in Arizona.   

Education

College level coursework (100+) from an accredited institution will be evaluated on an individual basis according to the skill/level to determine if applicable to the position by management.
