Summary
The mission of the Analytics Center of Excellence (ACE) is to develop cutting edge analytic solutions that empower Salt River Project to deliver innovative and cost-effective solutions related to the delivery of power and water to its customers across the Phoenix Metro area.
As the Principal Data Engineer in ACE, your role is to help create and communicate the data platform strategic direction, architect tools and platforms for all three ACE departments (Data Engineering, Data Visualization, and Data Science), implement and reinforce best practices, support and advise fellow data professionals, and architect complex data solutions. The solutions you will help architect and develop include data models, data flows, and algorithms which solve interesting business problems. Day to day you can expect to be working with data analysts, data scientists, and business users across the enterprise, including occasional presentations to leadership.
What You'll Do
Responsible for guiding the implementation of data platforms and development of data solutions
- Acting as a consultant to large, strategic projects and SRP's Analytics Community
- Driving the implementation and rollout of platforms and technologies that best serve SRP's analytical needs
- Defining frameworks, standards, and governance policies for the use of ACE's analytics platforms of Snowflake, Dataiku, and Power BI
- Helping develop, update, and implement SRP's analytics strategy
- Evaluating and implementing of platforms in support of our customers' data needs and SRP's cloud first strategy
Responsible for providing project and technical direction to ACE
- Evaluating business needs/problems and determining the proper application of technology to address them
- Interpreting and translating business stakeholders' requirements to viable and sustainable technical solutions
- Sharing knowledge and skills with your teammates to increase the team's overall capabilities and help ensure reliable support coverage
Responsible for leading efforts to grow SRP's analytics culture
- Maintaining awareness of trends and technologies related to data and analytics
- Being an advocate for self-service analytics across the enterprise
- Consulting and advising on the effective use of data, analytics, and technology
- Providing leadership in SRP's Analytics Community
What It Takes To Succeed
- Experience architecting data models, building ETL/ELT pipelines, writing complex queries, creating visual analytics, and implementing predictive/prescriptive algorithms in a business analytics setting
- Ability to write and troubleshoot extremely complex data queries written in T-SQL, PL/SQL, HiveQL, Impala, ABAP, etc.
- Experience with evaluating data sources to improve data quality, availability, usability, and integrity
- Curiosity and passion about utilizing data in innovative ways to solve problems
- Highly organized and efficient at managing multiple projects in a fast-paced continuous delivery environment
- A proven track record of relationship building with both technical and non-technical resources at various levels of the organization
- Experience collaborating with Storage, Network, Server Management, and Cyber Security with the ability to productively influence outcomes that align with SRP's analytics goals
- Ability to translate complicated or technical information into clear communications for non-technical audiences
- Excellent communication skills and comfort presenting to people at all levels of the organization
- Results driven, self-reliant, and able to thrive in an fast-paced collaborative team environment
- Ability to create technical documentation
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge and experience in Azure Data Factory, DBT, Snowflake, Dataiku, PowerBI
- Certifications in Azure Data Factory, DBT, Snowflake, Dataiku, PowerBI
- Ability to write code in scripting languages such as Python, sql, PowerShell, and R
- Knowledge of Data Management and Governance for analytics products with tools such as Collibra
- Experience with other technologies Microsoft BI Stack, Microsoft Power Platform, SAP ECC, SAP BW & Business Objects, SQL Server, SSRS, Databricks, SAS, Hadoop, Tableau
- Strong Knowledge in various areas such as Cloud Operations, Storage, Networking, Security, Operating Systems, General Troubleshooting
Experience
Minimum of 10 years cumulative and progressive post-degree experience Master's Degree Preferred

Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
