Summary
The ERP Application Developer Principal serves as the organization's senior technical leader for SAP development, architecture, and modernization. This role is responsible for defining the SAP technical roadmap, guiding the transition from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA, and establishing development standards that support scalable, secure, and maintainable enterprise solutions.
Working closely with business stakeholders, IT leadership, Enterprise Architecture, implementation partners, and development teams, this individual will drive technical strategy, architectural governance, modernization initiatives, and engineering excellence across the SAP landscape. Recommend and implement AI-driven practices that enhance solution quality, increase productivity, and drive measurable business value.
This position combines technical leadership, solution architecture, mentoring, and hands-on expertise to influence the future direction of the company's SAP ecosystem.
What You'll Do
Strategic Leadership & Architecture
- Define and drive the SAP technical strategy and roadmap supporting the organization's SAP S/4HANA transformation.
- Serve as the technical authority for SAP development, integration, extensibility, and architecture decisions.
- Partner with business and IT leaders to align technology solutions with business objectives.
- Identify opportunities to modernize solutions, reduce technical debt, and improve scalability and maintainability.
- Research and evaluate emerging AI capabilities and industry solutions to identify opportunities that accelerate project delivery and improve operational readiness.
SAP S/4HANA Transformation
- Provide technical leadership for the SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA transformation program.
- Lead technical solution design, architecture reviews, and development governance activities.
- Define migration and modernization strategies for custom developments, integrations, reports, forms, workflows, and enhancements.
- Promote SAP Clean Core principles and modern extensibility approaches.
Development & Technical Governance
- Establish SAP development standards, architecture patterns, coding practices, and quality expectations.
- Provide expertise in ABAP, ABAP on HANA, CDS Views, RAP, OData services, SAP Fiori/UI5, APIs, and SAP BTP.
- Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical assessments to ensure quality, security, and supportability.
- Govern technical deliverables from internal teams, vendors, and implementation partners.
Leadership & Team Development
- Mentor and develop SAP developers and technical team members.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Lead technical reviews, architecture discussions, and development best-practice initiatives.
- Provide guidance to onsite, offshore, and vendor development resources.
Operational Excellence & Stakeholder Engagement
- Support the stability, reliability, and performance of SAP environments throughout the S/4 transformation journey.
- Lead resolution of complex technical issues and critical production incidents.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison for implementation partners, vendors, and key stakeholders.
- Communicate technical strategies, risks, and recommendations to leadership and project teams.
Education
Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 10+ years of SAP technical development experience.
- 5+ years in an SAP technical leadership, solution architecture, or lead developer role.
- Experience participating in or leading SAP S/4HANA transformation, upgrade, or modernization initiatives.
- Strong expertise in ABAP, ABAP OO, CDS Views, RAP, OData services, SAP Fiori/UI5, and SAP development best practices.
- Experience establishing development standards, technical governance, and architecture frameworks.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence technical direction across multiple initiatives.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, mentoring, and leadership skills.

- SAP S/4HANA implementation or migration experience.
- Experience with SAP BTP and Integration Suite.
- Knowledge of SAP Clean Core and extensibility strategies.

Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
