Summary
The Payroll Analyst is responsible for executing and supporting payroll operations for both union and non-union employees across the organization. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with federal and state regulations, and alignment with collective bargaining agreements. The analyst will collaborate with Benefits, Human Resources, Finance, and Labor Relations teams to maintain payroll integrity and resolve issues efficiently.
What You'll Do
- Process and reconcile bi-weekly payroll for hourly union and non-union employees, including regular wages, overtime, bonuses, and deductions.
- Ensure compliance with Arizona labor laws, federal regulations, and union contracts.
- Analyze payroll reports and resolve discrepancies related to timekeeping, deductions, tax withholdings, and employee status changes.
- Maintain payroll records and audit trails for internal and external review.
- Handle W-2 reporting, garnishments, direct deposit errors, and voluntary/involuntary deductions.
- Interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements to payroll calculations.
- Track and process union dues, shift differentials, and other negotiated pay elements.
- Collaborate with Labor Relations to resolve payroll discrepancies related to union rules.
- Support and troubleshoot timekeeping systems, train employees and supervisors on usage.
- Reconcile timekeeping data with payroll inputs and resolve escalated issues.
- Prepare payroll reports for Accounting, including labor cost analysis and accruals.
- Assist in year-end processing .
- Support audits and provides necessary documentation for internal, external or regulatory audits.
- Identify and implement process improvements for greater payroll efficiency and accuracy.
- Stay up to date with payroll laws and regulatory changes impacting payroll operations.
- Communicate payroll changes, deadlines, and updates to employees and stakeholders.
- Provide responsive support to employee inquiries and escalate complex issues as needed.
- Complete General Ledger Account Reconciliations and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner. Prepare and enter correcting journal entries.
- Complete continuing education to stay current with payroll and garnishment laws. Research items using resources with American Payroll Association.
- Handles other duties and projects as assigned.
What It Takes To Succeed
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite including advanced Excel skills is preferred.
- SAP experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to organize a diverse workload, work independently, and complete work accurately and within deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail
- Strong knowledge of payroll systems (e.g., ADP, SAP Employee Central Payroll) and timekeeping platforms is preferred.
- Familiarity with Arizona labor laws and federal payroll regulations is preferred.

Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
