Summary

With effective supervision, performs skilled work in the overall maintenance, inspection and repair of automotive, construction and aerial equipment.

What You'll Do

  • Performs preventative maintenance functions, as scheduled, on automotive, construction and aerial equipment.
  • Diagnose, repair, replace, overhaul and maintain all aspects of automotive, construction and aerial equipment.
  • Test and maintain emissions control system.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Safe operation and knowledge of the proper use of cranes, hoists, jacks, stands, power tools and other tools.
  • Operate various types of equipment to diagnose malfunctions for maintenance or repair purposes.
  • Performs all inspections necessary to meet SRP, State or Federal requirements.
  • Training of peers, subordinates and apprentices.
  • Is responsible for inspections, adjustment and maintenance of assigned ship equipment and tools.
  • Performs cutting and welding operations using oxy-acetylene, electric arc and miscellaneous wire feed processes.
  • Assist other employees doing related work. Provides coverage to maintain operational requirements due to vacation due to work leave, or as workloads vary.
  • Washes vehicles, steam cleans engines and chassis, washes parts, cleans tools, cleans maintenance facilities.
  • Moves various types of equipment to or from various locations for maintenance purposes.
  • Depending on workload employees in this job classification may be required to perform duties of other job classifications of equal or lesser pay for which they are qualified within Transportation Services.
  • Effectively operates computerized equipment, computers and associated operating programs, e.g. wheel balancers, diagnostic equipment, mainframe and desktop terminals and associated SRP operating systems, e.g. FMS, MATS, etc
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties.  Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public.   Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work.  May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.

What It Takes To Succeed

Ability to acquire knowledge of, and comply with Hazardous Waste policies and procedures established by SRP, State or Federal regulations.   Obtain necessary training and certification as required by changing technologies State and Federal regulations or SRP policies.

 

An applicant for this job may qualify for this position by meeting one of the following:

 

A. Three year minimum non-SRP apprenticeship and documented proof of two years Heavy Equipment Journeyman level experience.

B. AA Degree in Automotive Technology and documented proof of three years Heavy Equipment Journeyman level experience.

C. Documented proof of five years Heavy Equipment Journeyman level experience.

Experience

Successful completion of an Auto Apprenticeship or equivalent experience.

Education

High School, GED or Equivalent.

Testing and Certifications

Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
