Summary
Provides project management and engineering support for planning, design, engineering, procurement, construction, and testing and commissioning activities on high-value, high-visibility, multi-year and/or schedule-constrained electric utility substation and transmission line projects typically ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. Performs project studies and initial engineering designs for new substation and associated transmission line facilities. Ensures project deliverables adhere to SRP's design, cost, schedule and quality criteria, and safety values. Closely coordinates with organizational team members including leadership, program managers, project managers and project controls personnel to ensure project objectives and milestones are achieved.
What You'll Do
• Responsible for project management and engineering activities including planning, design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning efforts for major power delivery infrastructure projects which may consist of new industrial substations, generator and transmission line interconnections and SRP-initiated assets. This includes directing, assigning, and prioritizing project work plans to meet project requirements and milestones.
• Manages, oversees and coordinates all technical aspects of project activities supported by a matrix team consisting of internal departments and external consultants/contractors performing with responsibilities such as engineering, civil construction, physical electrical construction, protection and control construction, testing and commissioning. Serves as the single point of contact with outside entities including customers.
• Leads development of feasibility studies, scopes of work, cost estimates, schedules, conceptual designs, major materials lists, outage planning, construction sequences, and technical aspects for construction Request for Proposals (RFPs).
• Collaborates and coordinates with internal and contract team members including engineers and subject matter experts, and external customers to determine project requirements and identify feasible solutions.
• Provides technical support on reviews of project documentation including study reports, design drawings, constructability plan, specifications, and customer contracts.
• Proactively communicates project updates to team and management, maintaining accurate and up to date records, including project management reports and status updates to provide visibility to current and potential project risks.
• Administers and coordinates the development, implementation, and maintenance of standard processes and procedures for all project stakeholders.
• Establishes and monitors the project budget and schedule; and provides team leadership to support schedule and budget performance.
What It Takes To Succeed
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering preferred.
Experience in substation design preferred.
Responsible for project budgets and schedules. Occasional contacts with customers and outside agencies. Contacts with suppliers of equipment and services. Occasional travel to suppliers facilities, industry organizational functions and SRP facilities. Ability to work effectively with various organizational groups within SRP. Ability to use engineering tools required for the job (i.e., computer, test equipment, etc.).
Experience
Five (5) years full time experience actively engaged in engineering practice. Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for the job of Senior Engineer.
Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
